The brushless motors that RC cars use are RC motors. RC motors are of two types: internal rotor on runners and external rotor or external runners.

In brushless RC motors, the electromagnets (poles) are fixed and the permanent magnets are in the rotating part of the motor. The permanent magnets of the brushless in runner motors are housed inside the electromagnets. In the out runner motor, the permanent magnets and electromagnets are opposite each other.

Unlike the brushed RC motor, brushless motors do not require any physical commutator, and this is one of the reasons why many buyers choose Brushless RC cars.

Due to the absence of commutator, RC cars are easy to maintain and it saves the buyer a lot of maintenance costs, as there are no wear brushes and commutators and the bearings can last quite a long time.

Since a brushless motor does not make use of any current-carrying devices (commutator and brushes), it uses components such as an external rotor and three-phase driving coils, as well as an integrated electronic drive.

In addition, there is a sensor that detects the position of the rotor.

Therefore, the coils are activated gradually in a synchronous way, one phase after another, and the electronic actuation is initiated by the sensors.

Although brushless motor RC cars are more expensive than brushless motor RC cars, you will be able to find an affordable RC car with a brushless motor system.

Advantages of brushless RC motors

Brushless RC Motor:

• The brushless RC motor requires very little maintenance as the brushes and commutator do not wear out or need to be replaced. Thus, it saves the buyer a lot of maintenance costs.
• Compared with the brushed RC motor, the brushless RC motor has higher efficiency.
• It has a longer run time.
• It has a higher speed than the brushed motor.
• It is more durable.

Disadvantages of RC brushless motors:

• Requires an electric controller.
• It is expensive to produce.
• It has complex electronics.
